Chapter VI · About

About me.

Marvellous Aluka. Marvyy, if we're on speaking terms.

My name is Marvellous Aluka, but you can call me Marvyy. I am a tech enthusiast living in Lagos, originally from Imo State, raised in Port Harcourt. I studied Political Science at the University of Port Harcourt, which might surprise people who see the tech work first. But it actually makes complete sense to me. Politics is not just governance and elections. I genuinely think it is the oldest and most powerful technology the world has ever produced. Every system, every institution, every structure humans have built sits on top of it. Understanding politics taught me how to read the world, and I carry that into everything I do.

I grew up in Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, and I was never really the kid who just used things. I always wanted to know what was happening underneath. Who built this. How does it work. Why does it work that way. That part of me has never changed.

The way I got into tech is honestly a bit funny. I paid someone to make a design for me once and they never delivered. So I sat down and did it myself. Turns out I could. That small frustrating moment opened something up in me that I did not expect. The other thing that pushed me further was laziness, and I say that with full honesty. I just could not stand doing the same thing over and over when I knew a smarter way had to exist somewhere. That search for the smarter way is still what drives me today.

Most of my time now goes into exploring AI tools, designing on Canva, editing videos on CapCut, writing copy and content, and finding ways to automate things that used to eat up hours for no good reason. I should also mention that I write stories. Imaginary ones that have never seen the light of day, which is something I am hoping changes soon. The ideas are there. One day the world will see them.

I also work as an IT support intern and creative at a window shade manufacturing company, and that experience has taught me more about how real businesses breathe and function than anything I could have read in a book.

Business genuinely fascinates me. Not just the tech parts of it but the whole thing. How a company is structured, what keeps an industry moving, how people make decisions under pressure. I want to understand all of it because someday I want to build something of my own and I refuse to go into that blind.

AI is what excites me most right now. Not in a hype kind of way — I am excited because of what it demands from you.

It is not enough to just use it. You have to think, you have to be creative, you have to keep pushing. That tension between human intelligence and machine capability is something I find genuinely thrilling.

I am a Christian and my faith is not background noise in my life, it is the foundation. I believe in the supremacy of God and I have seen enough to know that nothing is truly impossible. I also carry two things my upbringing drilled into me: nothing goes for nothing, and the world does not care about efforts without results. Both of those feel like tension but they actually work together. Every quiet season is building something. But at some point you have to show up with something real to show for it. I hold both truths at the same time.

That is what keeps me moving.
